DRIVE YOUR BRAND
I’m John Perry, and Graphic Design 309 is my personal portfolio, a space where design, strategy, and experience come together.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve developed creative and marketing systems designed to do more than look good; they perform. My work has integrated media design, experience strategy, and data-driven marketing to explore how brands attract attention, connect with people, and inspire meaningful action. I believe design is more than aesthetics; it’s about understanding behavior. Each project has started with research and insight into what audiences value and how they make decisions, shaping visual and strategic elements into thoughtful, experience-driven outcomes.
Across a range of projects, from full campaigns to individual touchpoints, my work has focused on creating designs that resonate, communicate clearly, and strengthen the connection between a brand and its audience.
What I do.
LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT I DO
Experience is the Design. Connection is the result.
Design isn’t just what I do, it’s how I connect with people. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked with brands from Chicago to Detroit, Las Vegas to Cedar Rapids, and now here in Bloomington. Every project has taught me something new about what makes people stop, feel, and respond. Design is about understanding that balance between creativity and purpose, where the visuals, the message, and the experience all meet.
In past projects, it’s never just been about completing a task. It’s about creating something that means something. I take time to understand what matters to the viewer, how an audience thinks, and what they need to see or feel to trust a brand. That’s how design becomes more than art. It becomes a story people remember.
Graphic Design 309 is my gallery. It’s where strategy, creativity, and experience come together to showcase work that reflects that approach.
To build effective creative work, I begin by clearly defining the problem and understanding the goals behind it. In my experience, successful design isn’t created in isolation; it’s developed through a strong understanding of marketing, communication, and audience behavior. Campaigns, websites, and visual systems are most effective when they align with broader brand strategy and customer experience goals.
From there, I explore solutions through design—color, typography, layout, and storytelling. I’ve worked with analytics, trends, and real-world insights to guide decisions and better understand how audiences respond. The strongest work balances creativity with clarity, and emotion with intention. By combining creative direction, marketing strategy, and communication design, my work has focused on creating visuals that stand out, connect with audiences, and support meaningful engagement.
